I believe in a cup of coffee...

Sunday, September 29, 2013

I believe in a cup of coffee. Perhaps it is the rich aroma or even just the complete joy of the dark drink filling your body with an enjoyable warmth. I love that in the morning I can always look forward to starting off my day happily with a nice hot cup of coffee. I love that even if everything in my day is going wrong, the coffee is somehow the one thing that goes completely right. And even though I could go on and on about my fondness for the drink itself, (I am completely guilty of this fact), what I love most are the conversations shared over a cup of coffee.

Happy Sunday!

Fall has arrived!

Saturday, September 28, 2013

Fall has officially arrived, which makes me absolutely giddy with excitement! The leaves are changing; vibrant colors of red, orange and yellow are slowly replacing summer’s green hue. Bring on the scarves, boots, sweaters and seasonal coffee drinks!

My friend Morgan and I took a little road trip to her hometown this weekend. It was a lot of fun exploring the area she lives in, and I had the pleasure of tagging along on an engagement shoot she did!

Adventures were plentiful and time was filled with good conversations and a great deal of laughter!

Early mornings

Tuesday, September 17, 2013

"I love early mornings when it feels like the rest of the world is still fast asleep and you're the only one who's awake and everything feels like it isn't really real and you kind of forget about all your problems because for now, it's just you, the world and the sunrise."

In one of my classes, we were assigned to take pictures of typography around town. I took full advantage of this by turning it into a little early morning adventure! Waking my roommate up much earlier than she would probably would have liked, we headed downtown to grab coffee and breakfast at Nichole's Fine Pastry.

After we were caffeinated up, we wandered about and discovered a quaint little house with a yellow bench and lending library in the front yard. The only rule... "take a book, leave a book."

It was such a lovely morning and even better, was the cool, crisp essence of fall in the air!

Have a great Tuesday!

Seeing Red

Monday, September 9, 2013

This past Friday night, my sister and I took a trip to the Fargodome to see the notorious Taylor Swift.
It was a remarkable show filled with fireworks, elaborate video setups, plenty of costume changes, and confetti, lots of confetti.

Dorothy would have swooned over Taylor Swift’s glittery red shoes. It's safe to
say she'd go for the sparkling red guitar, too. And the red microphone, the red lipstick, the red dresses and even her violinist's red hair.

“I write lots of songs about my feelings, and I tend to think a lot about emotions,” Swift said into her red-sequined microphone. “These emotions can be so intense they drive people mad. But experiencing them can help turn us into the people we’re supposed to be.”

When she asked the audience what color best described those crazy emotions, it wasn’t difficult to figure out what the answer would be.

“Red!” we all screamed.
Taylor then launched into the album’s title track. A few songs later, she had another message for the crowd.
“I used to think meanness was something that people grew out of,” Swift said as she sat on a bench and periodically strummed her banjo.
“But I found out that’s not true. There’s always going to be somebody picking on you,” Swift said. “The only thing that’s up to us is how we respond to it, and one way to respond is to make a mental note to never treat anyone else the way this person has treated you.”
Nods of admiration and a few teary-eyed looks of recognition made it obvious that what she was said was touched everyone in the audience on a personal level.
The sets during Taylor's concert included Paris, a movie theater premiere in the 1940s, a masquerade ball, a rustic carnival and a Tim Burton-worthy circus.
Overall, the show was phenomenal and I would highly recommend seeing her in concert at least once!
You will be in for one heck of a show!

Want to go on an adventure?

"Everything you need will come to you at the perfect time."

More times than I'd like to admit, I am overcome with anxious feelings about the future. I over think, over plan and hold my expectations to high which usually only ends in disappointment. In regards to this, I have been striving to live in the now and let things come as they may.

Earlier this week, I was sitting in class when I received a text from a friend asking if I wanted to go on a little adventure and take pictures. At that exact moment, it just so happened we were let out of class an hour early! The timing could not have been better and obviously I wasn't going to pass up an adventure!

The afternoon was filled with roaming the lesser-known streets of Moorhead and stopping every few feet to capture the moment. This day was just what I needed; my creativity recharged, my hunger to explore fulfilled and for the first time in a long time, I felt fully in the present.
